Ned Smith’s Week Twelve Blog

This was my third week in Singapore and it has been such a great experience. I feel like I am starting to get used to the heat and humidity but it is still very hot. Working for UPS has been an amazing learning experience. I have been working on a project that involves optimizing the data entry and arrival process for package clearance. I have been working with my supervisor to understand the process and the data that is used. I have been using my background in business analytics to analyze the data to come up with my observations and […]

Nicole Salantay- Week 6 Singapore

This week, one of our roommates that attends a different university, was ending her time with the program. We decided to have a farewell dinner with her by the Marina Bay Sands. Our client for the past 2 weeks has their office about an hour away from the city center so I had to go to the restaurant straight from work. I got to the MRT station a little early so I decided to walk around the Bay and call my parents/ grandparents. It was a beautiful view! Dinner was very bittersweet; it was so nice to sit down and […]

Ned Smith’s Week Eleven Blog

This week in Singapore was very busy. I spent most of my time working at UPS and exploring the city. I am so grateful for this opportunity and I am learning so much. I have to get used to the heat and humidity especially during the commute to work. Wearing pants and a long sleeve shirt in 90 degree weather is not fun, thank god for air conditioning. I did not know what to expect when I started my internship with the industrial engineering team. I was worried that I would not be able to contribute much because I did […]

Ned Smith’s Week Ten Blog

This was my first week in Singapore and I am so excited to be here. The city is very different from Sydney and feels very modern. Compared to Sydney the weather is much hotter and more humid. The city is extremely clean and there are many things that contribute to that. There are strict laws on littering, spitting, and chewing gum. Also no food or drinks are allowed on the public transportation. I feel very safe in Singapore and the people are very friendly. One thing I did not expect was the quality and variety of food. Singapore is famous […]

Ned Smith’s Week Nine Blog

This week was spring break and I got to spend it in Cairns, Australia. Cairns itself is a very small city and is a very stark difference from Sydney. The weather is a bit hotter and more humid but it is still very nice. During the week, I went to the Great Barrier Reef, went on a waterfall tour, and visited a crocodile park. It was a super cool experience that I would not have been able to do if I was not in Australia with Bucknell. Our day at the Great Barrier Reef was a journey. When we got […]
