Week 2 in Auckland

This week was leading up to Easter, and everyone in the office has been excited about the long weekend. In terms of my internship experience this week, I have gained a better understanding of the investigation surrounding the trust’s income commission policy through examination of past PowerPoints and reports, as well as by sitting in on meetings where we discussed how to move forward with the issue. Before the long weekend began, all the employees and I enjoyed hot crossed buns together to celebrate the Easter holiday. To take advantage of the long weekend, my roommates and I decided to […]

Week 1 in Aukland

This week I began my internship at the Aukland Public Trust. I started off the week by moving into my new apartment building and waking up for an orientation with GAV and the rest of the interns. We walked through downtown Aukland, learned where some nice restaurants, necessary stores, and public transport was located, and visited the GAV Aukland office. We finished the orientation off with a group lunch at a restaurant called Coop’s where I got a Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The rest of the day was free for us to explore, so I went and got a gym […]

Spring Break in Cairns

This week was unsurprisingly the most eventful week so far. We stayed in a hostel above a club which i frequented nightly. We got some fun pool volleyball and basketball games going here throughout the week. There were also planned excursions every day except the final 2. Firstly, we visited the great barrier reef where everyone snorkeled and I participated in 2 scuba dives. The reef is truly amazing. There are hundreds of different fish everywhere you look and the coral decorates the ocean floor with every color. I saw a few sharks and 2 sea turtles amongst many other […]

Week 8 in Sydney

This week was our final week in Sydney. I am sad to leave but excited for what the next half of the semester and spring break has to offer. I didn’t do much this week because I had both my finals this week and also spent a good bit of time packing all of my stuff and getting ready to leave the Goldsborough hotel. I think my finals went well. Both were take-home exams which made things a bit easier given the fact that I could take them whenever I wanted after they opened. Aside from school and packing, my […]

Week 7 in Sydney

This week didn’t hold anything out of the ordinary in terms of classes. In business law, we learned about employee law and laws surrounding different types of business structures in the United States. In my tax class, we had a guest alumni speaker from UBS visit and talk about his experiences as a working professional in Australia and South-East Asia. With finals coming up next week, I plan to start reviewing the materials we’ve covered so far in both classes to prepare. Over the weekend, myself and five friends decided to take a trip to the Blue Mountains to do […]

Week 6 in Sydney

This week was a bit more busy in terms of the work load for my classes. I had my normal homework for my tax class plus my first midterm in my business law class. The midterm was take-home so I was able to reference the textbook and other sources to help with my answers. I think the exam went well and I am eager to get my grade back. At the beginning of this week, a few of my classmates and I happened to find our business law professor at a trivia night at a small bar not far from […]
