John Wallace Blog – Week 15 in Singapore

This weekend, I went to see the Singapore cloud forest as well as the flower garden. It began with a indoor waterfall inside a dome, one covered in colorful flowers from floor to ceiling. It was interesting how the designers managed to make a dome that mimics the climate of a temperate mountain, an amazing feat considering it was built in a city where the average temperature is 90 degree’s Fahrenheit. As small as the area was, I found this to be an incredible experience. It was interesting how there were devices at the top of the dome that sprayed […]

John Wallace Blog – Week 14 in Singapore and Bali

On Wednesday, I learned how to play Mahjong with a bunch of friends. Considering how I grew up watching people play it in movies and in the real world, It was a great experience to finally learn it! I also found it to be a very fun and tactical game, I also give it extra points since I won most of the games that I played. My grandma always told me I was a quick study, and I’m glad to see she wasn’t wrong when it comes to Mahjong. On Friday, I went to one of the worlds most popular […]

John Wallace Blog – Week 13 in Singapore

This week, I volunteered in cleaning a river as a a part of my work at Morningstar. While it wasn’t the nicest day out, I feel as If I’ve started to enjoy things that other’s wouldn’t be so thrilled about. At this point, I realized how I’m happy doing anything as long as I’m in a foreign country; especially with such kind coworkers at my side. While I was cleaning the river, one that was already quite clean so there wasn’t a large amount of work to do to begin with, I noticed a pack of Sea Otters on the […]

John Wallace Blog – Week 12 in Singapore and KL

This weekend, I took a bus up north into Kuala Lumpur to see my uncle and little cousin. The two of them were in the area to see family and were happy to have me! When I arrived, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I hadn’t really heard anything about Kuala Lumpur up to that point. In lieu of that however, I was then greeted with the coolest pair of buildings I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The tallest twin towers in the entire world, the Petronas towers! The dazzling white lights of the tower was incredible to […]

John Wallace Blog – Week 11 in Singapore & Bintan

This weekend, we went on a trip to Bintan Island in Indonesia. It was a great tropical resort reminiscent of the few times I’ve been to the Caribbean. Almost everyone on the trip including myself spent a lot of time in the pool and the resorts swim-up bar. On the second day, I got a massage for the first time in my entire life. It was incredible, especially since I chose to do it with hot rocks. It may have been one of the first moments in my entire life where I genuinely felt calm, a big achievement considering the […]
