This week was a very gula melaka filled week of food! Gula melaka is essentially palm sugar, and has been something that I’ve come to enjoy very much. It definitely is sweet, but a different version of sweet! I got gula melaka milk tea, gula melaka coffee, gula melaka kueh, and a coconut shake with gula melaka sago. I highly recommend and is something that I will be searching for back home. The highlight of this week was the trip to Phuket! A beautiful island of Thailand, we were able to visit Maya Bay and the Phi Phi Islands! The […]
This past weekend we went to Bali~ It was hands down one of the most beautiful places I have been to. We had two tours during the weekend, one in Ubud for the jungle and rice terraces, as well as culturally more enriching. The other was in Nusa Penida, an island off the coast that had beautiful beaches. We were able to walk along the rice terraces, swing through the jungle, try many different flavors of coffee, and walk amongst the monkeys! We also got to enter many of the temples and learn that there were thousands of temples just […]
Another week in Singapore! I was able to tick off a lot of foods from my bucket list! Lexi and I tried chili crab with mantou, which are fried buns. The chili crab delicious and tasted more like tomato than I was expecting it to. Using the bun as a spoon to eat the sauce was so good and the sweetness of the bread made the meal complete. We got dinner with some Bucknell alum who have been living in Singapore for a very long time! They brought us to Newtown and got skewers, char kway teow, fried rice and […]
This week was a week of trying local flavors and exploring more of Singapore itself! Some highlights for food include carrot cake and salted egg chicken. Lexi and I tried carrot cake, and it was so different from what we were expecting it to be like. Rather than it being crunchy or hard from radish, the texture was incredibly soft and chewy. We got the combo of black and white, and they were both so flavorful. The salted egg chicken was incredible and I would definitely get it again. Of course, can’t forget about the dessert! I tried Cheng Tng, […]
Another week in Singapore means another week of amazing food! This week I was able to knock off a couple of things on my food bucketlist. I tried prawn cheong fun, which is a rice noodle dish. I also tried green chili chicken and noodles with fish balls! I would definitely get again. To top off the meals, I treated myself to many desserts, like sago red ruby, ice cream appam, and boba. Lexi and I did feel a little adventerous and decided to try some durian for the very first time! We bought some from a fruit stall in […]
