Week 6 in Singapore

This week in Singapore I had the chance to attend a Bucknell alumni networking event at the American Club. The American Club is sort of like a country club, but without a golf course. The walls were covered with pictures of US landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty or the Golden Gate Bridge, which made me a little homesick. However, it was amazing to talk to so many alumni that now live in Singapore. As someone who might be interested in working and living abroad one day, it was great to get their view on moving away from the US for work. I even met a couple alumni who worked in finance, and it was amazing to hear their journey from working in the US to getting a job in Singapore. It was also nice to hear their comparisons of workplace culture in the US and in Asia.

At my internship, I was able to work on another project for a potential investment. This was my second time doing this, so I was a bit more familiar with the process. I have found it very interesting learning about how private companies are evaluated on profitability, growth, etc. Additionally, it has been a great to develop my presentation making skills, as I will be using these skills a lot in my upcoming Summer internship and jobs.

On Saturday, a few of my friends and I decided to go back to Sentosa Island since we had so much fun last time. It was a beautiful day out, so we went to a beach club on Palawan Beach. We relaxed by the pool and enjoyed nice views of the ocean all day. It was a much needed reset day after being busy all week.

On Sunday, me and two friends decided to take the bus to Malaysia to explore. Once we got through customs (around 3 hours), we found ourselves in a massive shopping mall. It took us about 45 minutes to finally find our way out, but when we did we were able to walk around and see the city of Johor Bahru. After some sightseeing, we went back to the mall for a delicious Korean BBQ dinner. Overall it was a really fun day and I thought it was so cool we were able to take a quick day trip to another country.
