This week, I volunteered in cleaning a river as a a part of my work at Morningstar. While it wasn’t the nicest day out, I feel as If I’ve started to enjoy things that other’s wouldn’t be so thrilled about. At this point, I realized how I’m happy doing anything as long as I’m in a foreign country; especially with such kind coworkers at my side.
While I was cleaning the river, one that was already quite clean so there wasn’t a large amount of work to do to begin with, I noticed a pack of Sea Otters on the other side of the river. I asked a local about it, and she said that there are numerous sea otter gangs in Singapore; all fighting for territory against the others. I was so curious about this that googled it and found a map of every Sea Otter gang’s territory!

I couldn’t help but marvel at this information. It was even more interesting how I learned how the Sea Otter’s only recently entered into Singapore when the city began to crack down on littering, showing how the natural world can possibly co-exist with a massive city like Singapore. In fact, the Sea Otter’s sometimes travel through the sewers now! Which means that the sewers are so free of trash and waste that even Sea Otter’s can live comfortably down there!
Later that day, I met an important manager of Morningstar London. I had a very interesting conversation with the man and even followed him on LinkedIn. I’m slowly realizing how easy it is to network for me, provided I’m in an in-person setting.
