Grace Kim – Week 13

Another week in Singapore!

I was able to tick off a lot of foods from my bucket list! Lexi and I tried chili crab with mantou, which are fried buns. The chili crab delicious and tasted more like tomato than I was expecting it to. Using the bun as a spoon to eat the sauce was so good and the sweetness of the bread made the meal complete. We got dinner with some Bucknell alum who have been living in Singapore for a very long time! They brought us to Newtown and got skewers, char kway teow, fried rice and veggies. It was so nice being able to talk to them and getting to know their experience and how they ended up from Lewisburg to Singapore. I can’t wait to meet them again at the alumni event later this month.

We had a day off as it was Hari Raya! We decided to go to the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay. A lot of people were there since it was a public holiday but the flowers and plants were beautiful! It’s amazing how much nature they have been able to incorporate and maintain within the city.

This past weekend we went to Penang! It’s about 1.5 hours flight and very different vibe from Singapore. The currency exchange is so beneficial to the US dollar, and so we were able to splurge and eat a lot of food, go to a lot of cafes, and to really treat ourselves! Penang is known for their street art, and definitely is not an urban city area. There are many cafes and boutiques to stop by and to browse through that promote a lot of local art as well as souvenirs to bring home!
