Shay in Australia – Week 3

This week I had lots of opportunities to explore Sydney. My main goal was to visit the beach as many times as I could, as I did not have that many opportunities the first two weeks here. On Wednesday, I was able to take the ferry from Sydney Harbor to Manly beach. I was expecting to see some good views, but I did not realize that we would be passing the Opera house and the entire city. The ferry ride turned out to be one of my favorite memories this week, since I got such incredible views. Also, the entire trip turned out to be very cheap because of our Opal cards. This made me think of Los Angeles, and how public transportation there is terrible compared to Sydney. I am certainly glad that the buses, trains, and ferries are so easy and cheap to use here.
In class, I greatly enjoyed learning more about Australian culture. We watched a film called The Dish that talked about Australia’s part in the moon landing. Before watching this movie, I had no idea that other countries helped out the US with sending astronauts to the moon. This movie along with others showcased the pride that Australians have for their amazing country.
As I look back at this week, I am getting even more excited to try new things here and learn more about Australia.
