G’Day! After traveling across the globe, we finally made it! Over the past week, I have had the amazing opportunity to participate in a variety of activities all around Sydney. On Saturday, our group was led on a guided tour of the rocks district, where British people first landed. Learning about stories of prisoners that were brought to Australia that were able to get a second chance was fascinating. During the tour, we were able to visit the oldest still standing house in Sydney (pictured below). The person who lived in this house was a boat builder that was arrested back in London for stealing. He was sent to Australia and was able to begin a new life due to his unique skill. He built boats on the left side while living in the right side of the house. Having the ability to learn about these unique stories really allowed myself to understand how Sydney has developed over the past centuries.

On Sunday, we took a day trip to a wildlife reserve that was about an hour away from Sydney. We were able to see Koalas, Exotic Birds, Kangaroos and Snakes (although the snakes scared me a bit). Along with seeing wildlife, we were able to learn how to throw boomerangs and crack whips. I didn’t quite get the technique down for the boomerangs but was able to crack the whip after a few minutes. The reserve was a truly unique experience as we were able to interact with the animals and some were able to roam freely with us. Pictured below is a selfie with the Koala. I also learned that Koalas sleep for 21 hours per day!

My friends and I also have had the opportunity to visit both Bondi and Manly beach. Really beats the weather in Lewisburg! I was able to surf and catch a much needed tan. I am really looking forward to the next 7 weeks as well as my internship experience in Singapore!
