This has been a week I have been waiting on for most of my time abroad. This weekend I had the pleasure of travelling to Hong Kong with my father for the Hong Kong Sevens Rugby tournament. One of the staples of Hong Kong, this event never fails to disappoint. I travelled to Hong Kong on Thursday night and had a nice catchup dinner with my dad before heading to bed. The rugby tournament is Friday-Sunday with non-stop action. My dad and I arrived to the stadium early on Friday to get the weekend started. The environment at the stadium was incredible and it was great to meet people from dozens of different countries. With the famous protests in Hong Kong a few years ago there was definitely a good amount of tension between Hong Kong and China that boiled down when they both played each other in rugby.
Saturday is known as the biggest day for the tournament as everyone gets to the stadium very early and generally dresses up in a costume, but I was unable to find a costume in time. The rugby was great and the stadium atmosphere was unlike anything I’ve seen before.
Sunday was the last day of the tournament, but also the last day the tournament would be hosted in that Stadium – next year they are hosting the tournament in a new stadium. I had the pleasure of being invited into the Jardines executive suite and it was great to connect with new people there.
I flew back early Monday morning and got straight back to work thinking about the great time I had over the weekend.
