Josiah Kwok – Singapore Week 6

On Sunday, I decided to visit Changi Airport to explore the famed Jewel mall that included a garden and what was effectively an artificial indoor rainforest centered on a circular waterfall from the glass ceiling. It was quite an architectural marvel. I had booked a table at Jumbo Seafood Restaurant to try a tasting of the famed Singapore Chili Crab at 11:30 am. But since I was already there at 10 am, I decided to head up to the Canopy Garden on top. I purchased a ticket that also included the Canopy Bridge, a transparent glass bridge that offered stunning views of the atrium. After enjoying the bridge, I left for the main gardens. The main garden featured cute animal statues, a slide for children, elevated net “walking”, artificial fog holes for children to play, and a floral display. I am thankful for being able to go this time because the next time I am in Changi Airport, I will be lugging all my suitcases and worrying about making my flight. It was certainly relaxing and quite interesting. I definitely recommend the Canopy Bridge tickets, unless one is afraid of heights.

After the Canopy Gardens, I went to Jumbo Seafood Restaurant to try some Chili Crab. Unfortunately, the crab was too big for me to demolish it alone, so I ordered chili crab dip with deep-fried mantou bread. It was certainly delicious, filling for one person, and not messy. Afterwards, I rode the Airtrain between T2 and T3. This Airtrain is the only one that goes through the Jewel mall and catch a glimpse of the waterfall.

After decamping at the apartment, I went to the Night Safari. There were many families, but lines were relatively fast since it was the night before Monday. I rode on the tram ride, which took us around the park and get up close to various animals. Animals encountered include lions, tigers, foxes, rhinos, etc. It was interesting to see their behaviors at night since they are mostly seen at zoos during daytime. I ended off by going to the amphitheater to watch the animal display show, which was a really cool way to see the various feeding and behavioral habits of the various animals. The show featured owls, racoons, boars, etc.
