John Wallace Blog – Week 15 in Singapore

This weekend, I went to see the Singapore cloud forest as well as the flower garden.

It began with a indoor waterfall inside a dome, one covered in colorful flowers from floor to ceiling. It was interesting how the designers managed to make a dome that mimics the climate of a temperate mountain, an amazing feat considering it was built in a city where the average temperature is 90 degree’s Fahrenheit.

As small as the area was, I found this to be an incredible experience. It was interesting how there were devices at the top of the dome that sprayed a fine mist of water, creating a rainy environment for the plants to thrive in.

If you had told me a year ago that I would have went out of my way to see a dome filled with flowers, I would have told you “what a waste of time”. But I can say with all my heart that this was such a joyful way to spend my Saturday. I believe this trip has taught me a lot, things that I won’t fully understand until years later. Perhaps I’ve just begun to enjoy the journey just as much as the destination.
