Dirk in Singapore – Week 11

I’ve now spent over two weeks in Singapore, slowly but surely adapting to the different way of life. It is extremely astounding how humid it is here. Just the other day I was determined to join a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym in the area next to my office. I figured this would be a good opportunity to get back into shape as well as pick up a new skill. Unfortunately, Singapore is a maze when it comes to finding shops/locations inside the massive malls and complexes that oftentimes can have 8 floors both above and below ground. The day I set out to find the gym after work it was a typical afternoon in Singapore, sunny and 90º Fahrenheit. By the time I found the gym (probably 20 minutes of walking outside) I was unbelievably gross having lost this battle to the heat I soon realized the only way to effectively travel here is underground. This has helped me to understand the need for so many immense tunnel networks.

At work this past week I have begun to put my English skills to use as the official language of the Singapore business world is English. All the documents need to be proofread as there are typically many mistakes in the early phases. The documents I’m referring to are the sustainability reports that most companies are required to release to investors. These documents can range from 15 – 50 pages and cover topics such as current and future outlook towards ESSG needs.

Looking ahead, this coming weekend I am excited to travel to Indonesia to Bintan with the rest of our group. After looking at the resort we are planning to stay at, everyone has begun to get very eager to takepart in the different activities at the resort such as paintball, tubing, and fishing.
