Nicole Salantay-Singapore Week 3

This week at BDO we had a team meeting to discuss the new Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS). Our Boss gave a presentation to expand the knowledge of his division as he serves on the board that developed these new changes. It was interesting to have an inside look on these new principles and to understand where accounting is moving in the future. One of my favorite parts about BDO is our team. We always go out to lunch together and they are always excited to show us new cuisines. The team has really taken us under their wing and made my experience in Singapore a lot more comfortable.

Sunday morning, the Bucknell group had a tour organized to the National Orchid Garden. Although it was very humid outside, I really enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful orchids and learning more about Singapore’s history. One of my favorite parts of the tour was the portion where the guide showed us all of the orchids named after or in honor of important figures around the world. For example, Price William and Princess Kate from the Royal Family. The guide was incredible and gave us such a detailed experience; I was thankful for his optimism in such extreme heat. The gift shop had real orchids, picked from the garden, that were painted in gold and turned into jewelry. I though that their idea of preserving everlasting beauty was a nice sentiment. I had such a great time exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site and it was such a great memory of my time in Singapore.
