Week 2 in Auckland

This week was leading up to Easter, and everyone in the office has been excited about the long weekend. In terms of my internship experience this week, I have gained a better understanding of the investigation surrounding the trust’s income commission policy through examination of past PowerPoints and reports, as well as by sitting in on meetings where we discussed how to move forward with the issue. Before the long weekend began, all the employees and I enjoyed hot crossed buns together to celebrate the Easter holiday.

To take advantage of the long weekend, my roommates and I decided to rent a car and visit the towns of Taupo and Rotorua. We started with 2 days in Taupo where we hiked through an active geothermal location. The steam coming out of the craters was something I had never seen before. The following day we took a ride in a jet boat that drifted within inches of trees and cliff faces and took us up close to an impressive waterfall. We also did 2 other hikes that day, presenting us with views of the entirety of Lake Taupo.

We started our first day in Rotorua with more hiking and exploration of the area that took us by some more small geysers and around parts of Lake Rotorua, presenting us with some awesome views. The main event of the day was whitewater rafting. On this rafting excursion, we floated down the largest waterfall that you are able to raft in the world (23 feet). The next day, we rented mountain bikes and rode through the endless trails in the Rotorua’s mountains. The trails and scenery here were stunning. After this, we headed home to prepare for our internships the next day.
