Grace Kim – Week 11

Another week in Singapore means another week of amazing food! This week I was able to knock off a couple of things on my food bucketlist. I tried prawn cheong fun, which is a rice noodle dish. I also tried green chili chicken and noodles with fish balls! I would definitely get again. To top off the meals, I treated myself to many desserts, like sago red ruby, ice cream appam, and boba.

Lexi and I did feel a little adventerous and decided to try some durian for the very first time! We bought some from a fruit stall in Chinatown, and it was pretty expensive. We weren’t sure which was the best so we debated for a very long time. In the end, I would not get durian again. It tasted like creamy onion with the texture of soft mango, but the smell was very potent. I would be willing to try as an ice cream or other dessert but would decline if offered the actual fruit again.

During the week, we ventured to the Kampong Gelam Ramadan Bazaar, which is situated by Little India next to the mosque. There were so many food stalls and so many people lined up. Our waiting time for brirria tacos ended up being around 1.5 hours, but it was all worth it! We got to explore the area a bit and try Korean hot dogs and see all the other food options. I would definitely come again to get their bucket of Thai iced tea for $5 and a bulgogi toast sandwich!

We were able to spend the long Easter weekend on Bintan Island in Indonesia! The ferry ride was not too long and the island itself was like a resort with a pretty beach and nice pool. The weekend was spent eating lots of yummy food and treating ourselves to smoothies and sweet treats while lounging by the pool. There was a free all you can eat breakfast, which Lexi and I made sure to take advantage of. The highlight was the ramen that they cooked on the spot! There was a planned dinner where we all went out to eat seafood by the water. The view was beautiful and the food was delicious. My favorites were the crab and the salted egg calamari. On our last day we also got massages that were absolutely amazing, and I did fall asleep during it. It is truly amazing how Singaporeans are able to so easily travel to other countries and vice versa.
