Wanderlust Wonders: Vivian’s Journey Abroad (Week 10)

Lion City Legends- Week 2

Over the weekend, Bucknell students embarked on an unforgettable journey to Bintan Island in Indonesia, marking a chapter of adventure and relaxation in our study abroad experience. This trip was enhanced with a plethora of outdoor activities and culinary delights, along with the island’s natural beauty.

Highlight #1- Water sports

One of the many highlights of this trip is undoubtedly the array of water sports offered amidst the crystal-clear waters surrounding Bintan Island. Venturing out on paddleboats and kayaks, I found myself captivated by the sheer beauty that unfolded beneath me. The water is clear enough to visibly see glimpses of vibrant coral reefs and delicate jellyfish. As I paddled along the coastline, the panorama of parasails and jet skis added a touch of exhilaration to the serene landscape. Moreover, the resort featured an infinite pool for leisurely swims and an open space for beach volleyball, completing the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

Highlight #2: New Cuisines

Our resort, Nirwana Gardens, offered fantastic food. One standout is their famed sambal matah bali sauce, generously drizzled over seabass, igniting a symphony of exotic flavors. The cherry on top is definitely savoring fresh coconut water straight from its source while scooping out the tender pulp and coconut meat.  Equally enchanting was the savory delicacies that awaited at Kelong Seafood Restaurant on our last night, here. This seafood restaurant, nestled above the shore, graced us with stunning views of the sea and the picturesque sunset. From fresh crabs to tender fish to savory squid, each dish served as a delicious homage to Asian seafood cuisine.

This weekend retreat to Bintan Island is truly one-of-a-kind, an experience I’ll forever cherish. Through moments of exploration and indulgence, lasting memories in Indonesia are made. Biding farewell to this island oasis, we carry with us a newfound appreciation for the beauty of nature and the diverse cultures that enrich our world!
