Nicole Salantay- Singapore Week 1

We arrived in Singapore late Saturday night and went straight to our accommodations. We were able to settle into to the city the entire day on Sunday and we mostly shopped for last minute work attire. Right off the bat, Singapore was very different from Sydney and home in the United States. The city is relatively small with such a large population and I was shocked about how crowded the streets were especially on a weekend. That night Michelle, John, and I went to the China Town Hawker Center and got some delicious Thai food. I really enjoy Asian cuisine so I am really excited to explore new foods over the next couple of months and get out of my comfort zone.

Monday we started our internship at BDO where we would be learning from the Internal Audit Team here in their Singapore office. We started off the day going to the MOM office to get our passes that would allow us to officially work here in Singapore. Dirk and I had our appointments scheduled together and then we had orientation together at BDO right after that. I was taken aback by our beautiful building and I felt very excited to begin working here.

On Sunday, Michelle, Nicole, and I went to Sentosa Beach to get a better feel for what Singapore has to offer. The water was quite warm because of the heat and humidity but still refreshing enough to escape the strong sun. We just laid on the beach for a while before we sat down at a restaurant to get some food. I feel very spoiled from the Sydney beaches which are impossible to beat but I was excited to relax after a long week of work. Afterwards, we got sucked in by the mall that connected to the MRT and did some shopping. This was a great introductory week to Singapore and I am excited to keep learning about the culture.
