Wanderlust Wonders: Vivian’s Journey Abroad (Week 9)
Lion City Legends – Week 1
Greetings from Singapore! It’s mind-boggling to think we’re in Asia now! This week, our journey unfolds amidst the vibrant streets of Singapore, delving into its unique slang, and uncovering hidden gems. One of the most prevalent Singaporean expressions I’ve come across is “can or cannot” — a sufficient yet effective way of determining feasibility, whether or not a task can be completed.
Over the weekend, Bucknell students embarked on an adventure via the gondola to one of Singapore’s quintessential landmarks: Sentosa Island!

Highlight #1: Trick Eye Museum
The weekend began with a visit to the Trick Eye Museum, an immersive space of interactive three-dimensional artistry. Here, optical illusions are brought to life through their smartphone app. Initially appearing as conventional two-dimensional artworks, these murals spring to life upon scanning, courtesy of augmented reality technology. The result? A tapestry of picture-perfect moments that defy reality!

Highlight #2: Stand-Up Paddleboarding
I developed a newfound passion at Sentosa’s Ola Beach Club as I paddle-boarded for the first time. The water below my board shimmered crystal-clear blues. Gliding effortlessly across the surface, I found myself immersed in a tranquil oasis of relaxation and peace. The panoramic view of Sentosa’s skyline is absolutely breathtaking with occasional shrieks of excitement from the nearby bungee jumping tower.

Highlight #3: Wings of Time Night Show
To end the night, we were treated to Sentosa’s mesmerizing award-winning night show: Wings of Time. Against a backdrop of shimmering lights and cascading water effects, the story unfolded with a symphony of fire and fireworks, leaving us all in awe. Witnessing the seamless fusion of incredibly advanced technology and storytelling, projected onto a canvas of high-pressure water, felt surreal.

This weekend’s visit to Sentosa Island has been nothing short of extraordinary. There is still an abundance of activities and events I have yet to experience, thus, I will definitely be visiting again. I look forward to our upcoming adventures in Singapore.
