Week 7 consisted of one of the most memorable moments of my abroad experience so far. I was able to witness SailGP racing as they had their Sydney race during the weekend. This is a thrilling sport where sailboats that are 50 feet long and built for speed race in different spots all around the world. These boats can go up to 60 mph and I have been following the USA team for the past couple of years. Being able to witness these boats in person was a special treat, and I even got some merchandise for team Australia. Each “season” consists of the new country they are in, and I was able to witness team Australia celebrate their home victory on Sunday afternoon!
Another highlight of the week was visiting the Crown Resort for dinner. The Crown is one of the most beautiful buildings in Sydney and being able to experience the view of Sydney at night was spectacular. I also enjoyed visiting the Crown because of our discussions in Federal Income Tax about their operations. They were recently found guilty and fined for committing tax fraud. Being able to put together things learned in the classroom with places that are so close by was a cool experience.
