Adventures into Aussie Land – Week 5

Week 5 in Sydney was a vibrant tapestry of connections with Bucknell Alumni and explorations of the surrounding areas, including the enchanting Hunter Valley. On a memorable Friday afternoon, our class had the privilege of meeting Tony Massaro, a distinguished Bucknell Alumni, at his firm’s office. His captivating narrative traced a remarkable journey from his days in ROTC at Bucknell to his current role as a Partner at KordaMentha Real Estate in Sydney. Tony’s story illuminated the profound rewards of diligent effort and strategic risk-taking throughout life.Beyond his professional trajectory, I was particularly enthralled by Tony’s passion for running, having conquered numerous ultra marathons.

Another highlight of the week was our excursion to Hunter Valley, renowned as Australia’s wine country. Among the wineries we visited, Brokenwood Wines left an indelible impression. There, we delved into the intricate supply chain of winemaking, from selecting fertile lands to determining optimal marketing strategies. The insights into the investment required for equipment and the nuances of government regulations, such as Australia’s Wine Equalisation Tax (WET), added a fascinating layer to our understanding.
