After a sad goodbye to Sydney, we were off to enjoy a week of sun in Carins! Our first excursion was to snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef. Although the boat ride there was bumpy, our final destination unveiled a diverse range of marine life. There were so many colorful coral reefs and fish right beneath us! I had never been snorkeling before so the Great Barrier Reef was a very cool place to begin. I got to see a reef shark, stingrays, and even a jellyfish.

Fitzroy Island was one of the prettiest places I have ever seen. The water was crystal clear and the sand was so soft. We got to snorkel around the shore of the island and saw some sea turtles and stingrays. This trip was the epitome of a tropical destination and was exactly what I envisioned when I thought of the Great Barrier Reef. We spent the day lounging on the beach, eating some good food, and hanging out with friends. Fitzroy was one of my favorite parts of the entire spring break!

On our last full day in Carins, Michelle and I went skydiving together! We both had no idea what we were getting into when we booked the trip but it was honestly one of the best experiences i’ve had in my life. In the hours leading up to the flight, I wasn’t too nervous because we were jumping tandem with trained professionals. Once I saw the tiny plane we were going to be stuffed in, I started to realize that I was actually about to jump out of a plane 10,000 ft in the sky (twice the size of the tallest mountain in Carins). The scariest part was watching Michelle jump first and then sitting on the edge with my feet hanging out of the plane. I don’t remember jumping out but i’m pretty sure its because I closed my eyes. Mark, the instructor I jumped with, was so kind and made the experience so much more comfortable. I am super happy that I pushed myself to skydive, it was surely a once in a life time moment!
