John Wallace Blog – Week 7

This week, I finally went on a hike after seven weeks in Australia. I took a 2 hour train ride to the Blue mountains, immersing myself in the Australian countryside along the way.

Our trail began with a view of the three sisters, a sight that reminded me of the beautiful rock formations that dotted the great ocean road back in Melbourne. The trail was extremely vertical in the beginning and end, as we were traveling down and up cliffs with steep stairs.

The best part of the Blue mountains, however, was the waterfalls! The waterfalls that dotted the path were absolutely stunning, allowing the water to fall on top of me was a feeling unlike any other. The water was cold yet undeniably refreshing. Although I had to be wary of leeches, one of them even stuck to my shoe once.

The next morning, I went on a tour of the historic Sydney Opera house. Despite seeing it numerous times throughout my stay here, this is the first time I actually walked inside the building. It was so interesting hearing the ingenious methods both architects and builders used in creating this marvel of a building.

The process in creating the perfect environment for the orchestra was also really cool, especially with how the designers managed to digitize certain music notes and carving them into the walls. Allowing for stronger acoustics to reflect back onto the audience.
