Finishing My Aussie Bucket List

As our time in Sydney begins to wind down, I have been putting more of an emphasis on myself to see and do the things I’ve wanted to while here. This means I’ve spent a lot of time outside in nature in the last week!

I began the week watching a movie outdoors, with amazing views of the Sydney Opera House and the harbor. The movie began at 8pm, so I arrived about a half hour early and was able to catch some of the sunset! I was a bit worried that the event would be canceled due to the rain, but luckily, it cleared up just in time. At home, watching movies outside in the summer is something my friends and family do often. My mom bought an elaborate set up with beanbags, a projector, and even a fondue machine. This event definitely reminded me of home and was a nice way to get excited for movie nights when I can reconnect with my family and friends.

Walking to the check-in for the movie

I have not had the motivation to watch the sunrise since the first week. I have been meaning to get to the beach to do so, but, without an 8 am this block of classes, I have enjoyed sleeping in. It definitely does not help that most beaches are about an hour away via public transport, requiring me to get up even earlier. But I forced myself to get to the beach in time this week. I made the trek to Bondi, watching the sunrise above the water before doing the Bondi to Coogee Coastal walk, all before class.

Then, during the weekend, a group of us took the train to the Blue Mountains with the intention of hiking and swimming by the waterfalls. To our surprise, it was pouring rain, despite the forecast not having mentioned anything of the sort. We attempted the hike anyway, with insane fog blocking everything. It looked like something out of a horror movie! But, we had made the 2 hour journey and were intent on still exploring. Thankfully, the rain let up a bit and we were able to see some beautiful waterfalls!

When the rain cleared for a prolonged period, my roommates and I went to Freshwater Beach. This was the last beach on my list that I wanted to check out. It was a beautiful day out and a great, relaxing way for me to complete my beach list.
