John Wallace Blog – Week 5

On Valentines day, I met my mother after she returned from Cannes. I was eager to see her before she left back to America the next day, so I decided to buy her flowers like the good son I am. (Hopefully that’s what she thinks at least). Afterwards, we went to a really cool speakeasy called Baxter’s Inn; one which was personified by playing music during the American prohibition era.

On Friday, We all had an extremely interesting meeting with a Bucknell Alumni by the name of Anthony “Tony” Massaro. To say that his life is fascinating is a massive understatement, and I honestly found it a little inspiring for a boy in Pennsylvania to do so many things in his life such as anti-drug operations in the Carribean to real estate in Australia. I’m truly thankful to have met such an interesting person and it really goes to show how tight knit of an alumni group Bucknell has. Afterwards, we all went for breakfast at the James Squire: named after one of the original convicts that brewed alcohol in Australia.

The same night, I walked along the same area on my way to a nightclub and got an incredibly photo of the Opera House at night,

The next morning was a full day excursion to Hunter Valley to experience Australia’s wine industry! It was interesting watching the tools of the extensive process of turning grapes into wine! Here is a massive vat of grapes, just to show the massive scale of which the Brokenwood vineyard was working with.

Now I truly understand how people can major in wine (IE Oenology). The process to create wine is extremely comprehensive while also demanding extraordinary precision. I’d like to hope that our extensive taste-testing of their wine let them know that their product was meeting expectations and then some!
