Australia – Week 4

GDay! Crazy to think that I have been here for so long already! I do not want to leave! This past week, our full group spent Saturday visiting two wineries that are in the valley outside of Sydney. Learning about the wine-making process was very interesting and allowed me to understand what makes wine so special.

We first learned about the long process of growing the grapes. It is crazy to learn that every single days weather is vitally important to the end taste of the wine and the grapes. After learning about growing, we were able to see some of the pressers that are used to crush the grown grapes. It was interesting to learn that each presser can cost $200,000+ and it opened my mind to how expensive the process is. We also got the opportunity to see the oak barrels that were storing the wine. I learned that wineries prefer French oak instead of American oak which opened my mind even further to how complicated the process is! We also were able to taste some of the finished product after understanding the delicate and lengthy process that is needed each year! Below are a few pictures from the day!

I also have started my second block of classes here in Australia! After a great four weeks of taking Australian Culture and Financial Decision Modeling, I am now taking Business Law and Federal Income Tax! At first, I was skeptical about the class structure and longer class times at Bucknell. After going through the first block, I appreciate the structure and have learned lots! I look forward to learning more in the four weeks left in Sydney.
