My First Week in Australia

When I first signed up for this study abroad program, I never comprehended that I would have the opportunity to live and explore Sydney, Australia. One week in and I already love it here. Emerging from the plane, I first noted the heat – so much warmer than a winter/spring in Lewisburg, PA! Our accommodation in Sydney is in a great location that makes everything so accessible and GAV has been great at providing us with activities to do. On our welcome dinner, I had the opportunity to try kangaroo, which was incredible.

This semester we take classes in four-week blocks, with 2 classes being taken in each block. Each class consists of 3.5 hours of lectures three times a week. My first set of classes are Financial Decision Modeling and Australian Life and Culture. The classes are long, but the Professors are amazing and make the time go by quickly.

Most of my free time is spent exploring the beautiful city. My friends and I took a day trip to Bondi Beach which was absolutely breathtaking (Pictured below).

On Sunday, GAV took us to a walkthrough wildlife center where we got to roam around seeing kangaroos, peacocks, emu’s, and various other native Australian animals. One of my favorites to see was a koala which I was able to get a selfie with (Pictured Below).

Anyways, my first week in Australia has been amazing and I look forward to continuing to explore the beautiful country of Australia for the next seven weeks!
