First week in Australia

G’day! It has officially been one week since landing in Australia after a painfully long 21 hour flight from Newark to Sydney, but we made it! We have been keeping busy, doing lots of activates with the program such as a walking tour where we learned about the interesting history of how Sydney was shaped, and a visit to a zoo where we walked around and saw lots of animals! Additionally, my friends and I have done quite a bit of exploring on our own when we don’t have class. I have to admit that my legs are quite sore as we have been averaging around five to ten miles a day. I am currently taking global management and an Australian life and culture course where I am learning lots of new information and facts! Both of my professors are very genuine and enjoy teaching us Americans! In my Australian culture course, we recently watched a documentary about how the Aboriginals have once lived and the impact British colonization had on them which was very interesting. In global management, I gave a presentation this past Wednesday on the difference between global concentration versus economy specific concentration trade. Something I have also noticed is that everyone here is very friendly and I enjoy creating conversation with the locals. The accent is still growing on me! My friends and I have been trying a wide range of different restaurants and dishes here! Last Sunday, I tried kangaroo for the first time, which is intriguing to some but gross to others! I won’t get into too much detail, however it reminds me of a chewy venison (I can’t say its my go to). To my fellow visitors, I would highly recommend going to Bondi Beach on a nice day! The water is a very light blue and we even saw the film crew for the TV show driving around! I would also recommend applying lots of sunscreen… It was a sweltering 100 degrees today which took a toll on my neck, even after reapplying 5 times. All in all, I love the culture shift here and even though I’ve only been here a week, I can admit that I am in love with Australia (sorry Lewisburg).
